Restrictions and Measures Upon Entry into Japan (Updated January 8, 2021)

Due to the landing refusal added by the Ministry of Justice, the following customers will not be able to enter Japan.

Temporary Suspension of Entry to Japan from All Countries and Territories

As of October 1, 2020, entry to Japan has been permitted as a general rule from all countries and territories on the condition that the host company or organization is implementing measures to prevent infection. However, entry to Japan under this system will be denied from all countries and territories between December 28, 2020 and the end of January 2021 (excluding the UK and the Republic of South Africa).

  • Measures pursuant to the above will be implemented from 00:00 (midnight) on December 28, 2020 (JST).
  • As a general rule, holders of visas issued under the above system are allowed to enter Japan. However, this excludes cases in which non-Japanese nationals have visited the UK or Republic of South Africa within the 14 days prior to the date of application for landing in Japan, as well as cases where non-Japanese nationals are entering Japan on or after 00:00 on January 4, 2021 (JST) after having visited a country or territory at Infectious Disease Risk Information Level 3 within the 14 days prior to the date of application for landing in Japan.

Temporary Suspension of Special Entry Measures upon Return and Re-Entry from Short-Term Business Travel for All Countries and Territories

As of November 1, 2020, Japanese nationals resident in Japan and foreign nationals with resident status in Japan who travel short term on business to all countries and territories have been allowed to return to and reenter Japan without having to quarantine for 14 days on the condition that the host company or organization is implementing measures to prevent infection. However, from December 28, 2020 to the end of January 2021, this will not apply to passengers returning to/reentering Japan from all countries and territories (excluding the UK and the Republic of South Africa).

Strengthening of Quarantine

From December 30, 2020 to the end of January 2021, all persons entering or returning from any countries and territories (excluding the UK and Republic of South Africa) *1 in which the government authorities have confirmed that persons have been infected with the virus variant (excluding business or residence track arrivals and returnees) will be required to obtain a test certificate*2 within the 72 hours prior to departure and undergo a test upon entering Japan. Passengers who cannot submit a test certificate are required to quarantine for 14 days at a location designated by the quarantine station chief (limited to accommodation facilities secured by the quarantine station).

  • *1.As of January 7, 2021, the following countries and regions are designated
    The above-mentioned quarantine measures commence from 0:00 am (JST) on December 30, 2020.
    France, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Australia, Israel
    The above-mentioned quarantine measures commence from 0:00 am (JST) on December 31, 2020.
    Province of Ontario, Canada
    The above-mentioned quarantine measures commence from 0:00 am (JST) on January 1, 2021.
    Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Norway, Liechtenstein
    The above-mentioned quarantine measures commence from 0:00 am (JST) on January 3, 2021.
    Province of Colorado, United States, Province of Quebec, Canada
    The above-mentioned quarantine measures commence from 0:00 am (JST) on January 4, 2021.
    Province of California, United States, Germany, United Arab Emirates
    The above-mentioned quarantine measures commence from 0:00 am (JST) on January 5, 2021.
    Province of Florida, United States
    The above-mentioned quarantine measures commence from 0:00 am (JST) on January 9, 2021.
    Province of New York, United States, Iceland, Slovakia, Finland
    The above-mentioned quarantine measures commence from 0:00 am (JST) on January 10, 2021.
    Province of Georgia, United States, Georgia, NIGERIA, Province of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Luxembourg
  • The visa is valid for foreign nationals who have entered or returned to Japan within 14 days prior to the date of application for landing in Japan and who have stayed in the countries or regions listed in *1.
  • For the countries and regions designated in the future, it will be implemented from 0 AM on the 4th day after the designated date.
  • *2.Please download the data from the following “Certificate of Testing for COVID-19 Form”.
  • The above applies to persons who have a history of stay in the United Kingdom within 14 days prior to their return to Japan or the date of their application for landing in Japan.
  • Changes and refunds for ANA international flight tickets due to embarkation/disembarkation restrictions are accepted without charge, regardless of the fare rules.
    For tickets purchased from travel agencies and such other than ANA, please contact your place of purchase.
