Background
It seems that, every day, there are multiple headline articles that blame our current problems and issues on either the Democrats or the Republicans. This has been bothering me more and more for that past couple years, and I felt most compelled to write about it after reading a recent article on the subject. I’ll admit, I did not make it through the entire article. After getting about 1/3 into it, I could no longer stand the left bias and senseless rambling about how Fox News and the Republicans are allegedly ruining the USA. And this article is one of many, many examples of politics without substance, as we all know.
I believe the truth is both parties are to blame. For instance, take the January 6, 2021 Capital Riot, as stated (or should I say trumpeted) in the article. It was very bad and lawless indeed, and it was clearly an act of the extreme right. Let’s also take another example that the article didn’t mention at all – the Minneapolis, WDC, Seattle, Portland, OR and other George Floyd “protests”, which clearly have their roots in the extreme left. BTW, I consider these “demonstrations” to be no less riots than what happened on 1/6/21, as they were marked with violence, vandalism, and arson. If those events don’t qualify as riots, then I don’t know what does. Bad behavior is bad behavior, and it needs to stop on both sides – period!
As I have said in previous posts and venues, we need a more pragmatic and moderate government that is, once again, in sync with the views and best interests of most Americans. Instead, it seems that each extreme is getting all the more extreme. This is what scares me the most. How could a “representative government” serve the people it represents if they keep straying more and more from what America needs/wants only to continue going down rabbit hole after rabbit hole for the sole purpose of defeating the other side?
What has changed?
Remember how everyone rallied around President George W Bush after the horrific 9/11/01 event? And same with Bill Clinton after the Centennial Olympic Park pipe bomb during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta? This is the type of unity and patriotism that made us great, and I believe we badly need to restore it.
Contrast that to how multiple politicians reacted during the worst of the pandemic, which was actually a much more impactful crisis as those mentioned above, as bad as they were. Instead of bringing our nation together to fight real enemy (the coronavirus), both sides only fought each other tooth and nail over whether or not we wear a piece of cloth over our faces as a temporary/ stop-gap measure to help contain the virus. Really?! What makes it even worse was that science/ data/ medicine seem to have had no apparent place in the public messaging and even in some key decision-making, as it seems only politics wrote the COVID-response playbook. I believe this underscores the need/ urgency to rectify this MO and get back to the ground truth on these important issues.
What can we do about it?
Thus, let’s all think seriously about who we put on the ballots this November and in 2024. I would welcome some house cleaning and producing candidates who genuinely want what’s best for our fine nation and its people, as I believe this is truly what our forefathers had in mind.
